So today I am all Macaulay Culkin as Nat has gone to Blackpool for the weekend. Not wanting to waste an opportunity I asked if she could drop me at Darlington on the way, and she did! And I was to walk home.
It was a new route but a pretty boring one. Plenty of road walking with no path so dodging on and off the verge way. I did stumble on my first local nature reserve though, although as I walked down it, followed by a man with a dog, I felt I was filming a crimewatch reconstruction! The weather was nice, although the previous days had left the ground marshy, which, of course, proved to me my shoes were not waterproof. Nevermind, you live and you learn!
I powered on alone this morning, actually maintaining 3mph which is better than my normal. Walking along the back of Teesside Airport (yes, I know!) there were plane spotters sat in their cars with binoculars, at least I assume they were plane spotters! There was one or two low flyers overhead and I managed to get a picture.
After trekking the 7 miles into Yarm I saw a sign for 'Flounders House'. I could have sworn Flounders lived in the other direction!
I sat by the river and Yarm and waited for the Teesside Princess to whisk me away to Stockton. It never came. So instead, with a yearning for alternative transport, I walked to Eaglescliffe and in true Michael Portillo fashion, got a train! I saw two actual trainspotters as well! Anyway I managed to get back in Thornaby at about 1pm. Time to have a chill out and a soak in bath before games night at the club. I hope to recapture my domino form of last season!
Back to the Coast to Coast and a few more acknowledgments. Showcase cinema are donating a couple of movie posters to raffle, Chiquitos have donated a £35 meal voucher and the Arc have donated tickets to a show. Thanks a bundle!
